Dear Impact Collective Community,
As we approach Juneteenth—a day that commemorates freedom and reminds us that the struggle for liberation continues—it’s time to reflect. How are we using our resources, influence, and actions to help build a just and equitable future? This feels especially urgent now, as authoritarianism gains ground and threatens the very freedoms this holiday represents.
Last month, I attended an inspiring event hosted by Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ). Speakers called on white people with wealth—or proximity to it—to move resources toward multiracial solidarity. I was especially moved by Tarso Ramos's vision of a future where “our grandchildren tell the story of how we together funded and organized the mass movement that defeated authoritarianism in this time, and ushered in a new era of multiracial feminist democracy.”
Tynesha McHarris offered a powerful challenge to those of us who are wealthy and white: “What are you prepared to give up? Especially if you are white, especially if you are wealthy. Especially if you say you believe in freedom, in liberation, and a world where all of us can be safe.” She urged us to reject the false safety of whiteness. To reclaim our shared humanity. To invest in collective liberation.
I want my grandchildren to proudly tell their friends and their children that I stood up in this moment. That I used my influence and affluence to lead my peers toward our own liberation—and in service of the liberation of others.
What do you want your grandchildren to say about what you did in this political moment? What are you prepared to give up right now to fight for liberation for all—and ultimately, for our democracy?
With hope and determination,
