Dear Impact Collective Community,
What a year 2023 has been! We have grown so much as a community that is constantly learning, challenging ourselves and others, and striving to take meaningful action. It seems the world has become increasingly complicated all around us. We are continually seeking ways to connect and build relationships across differences in order to know what we can and should do to address the racial wealth gap, among other deeply troubling and urgent problems.
As 2023 draw to a close, I have been reflecting on whatI want to change and what I have control over. I imagine that many of you have been contemplating similarly as 2023 draws to a close. I was thrilled to have Michelle Chalmers introduce me toJustin Michael Williams and his bold invitation for us to end racism in one generation. Thank you to Michelle Chalmers, for this introduction! While I am late to the table of Williams’s work, his reframe on ending racism is no less radical at the end of 2023 than it was when he wrote it in the summer of 2020. He posits that, “The key to any major shift in the world has always been the same: getting enough people to not just believe a cause “matters,” but to believe that change is possible.”
At the Impact Collective, we believe that change is possible. We believe that each individual has countless actions at their fingertips that they can take. We simply need to get organized, make a plan, and choose to take them. We hope you take the opportunity this holiday season not only to step back and celebrate some of the successful changes you made in 2023, but also to look ahead to the changes you want to make in 2024. As individuals, our impact can be meaningful; as a collective, our impact can be game-changing.
Happy Holidays!
With love and gratitude,
Julia Johannsen
Founder of The Impact Collective

In October, a group of 11 members of the Impact Collective community came together to learn how identity, wealth, and wellbeing interweave. We loved being together in person to learn about the 5 primary factors that impact individual wellbeing and the unique assets that fuel our individual wellbeing. We strongly encourage everyone in our community to explore the Full Frame Initiative’s website as you think about how your actions influence the systems and contexts that impact others.
Heartfelt thanks to Katya Smyth and the Full Frame Initiative for sharing their fascinating framework for wellbeing so that we can begin to think in new ways about how our actions can impact the contexts that determine the wellbeing of others.

CLTV Lifestyle Directory
We hope you are planning to buy your holiday gifts from local, minority-owned businesses! We are building a Lifestyle Directory where members of our community can seek referrals for favorite minority-owned businesses of all kinds. We welcome your recommendations for this directory. Please submit your own recommendations to help us build this great resource!
YEAR END GIVING
As you think about year-end giving, we encourage you to refer to our Recommendations on Philanthropy and to be sure your giving is aligned to your values. This December, we hope many in our community will make a contribution to the Boston Impact Initiative (BII). BII is an essential economic engine in Boston that advances economic and racial justice by building a sustainable and inclusive economy where entrepreneurs and communities of color have financial, social, and political power.
